Since 1984, Dr. Kumar has dedicated his expertise to the Research Centre in Ranchi. During his tenure as Head from January 2003 to January 2014, he played a pivotal role in planning, implementing, and coordinating multi-disciplinary research, leading to significant achievements in horticultural crop development.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Kumar's area of work focused on the development of multiple stress-resistant varieties, production technologies for higher profitability, real-time pest forecasting, water productivity enhancement, and watershed development research. He facilitated the formulation of inter-institutional research projects and collaborated with various state government departments to provide technical support for development initiatives. Dr. Kumar also emphasized expanding public-private partnerships for effective technology dissemination.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout his career, Dr. Shivendra Kumar achieved several milestones. He contributed to the management of guava wilt disease using Aspergillus niger formulation and the management of black rot of cauliflower through boron formulation. He played a significant role in developing disease-resistant varieties and hybrids in vegetable crops such as brinjal, tomato, garden pea, cowpea, and Dolichos bean. Dr. Kumar also standardized suitable strains for year-round mushroom production.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Shivendra Kumar has a remarkable publication record, including 63 research papers, co-authorship of five books, ten book chapters, and thirty extension folders and popular articles. He has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including being elected as a Fellow of the Indian Phytopathological Society and serving in various prestigious committees and advisory roles for renowned institutions and organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Dr. Kumar is working as a Project Management Consultant (Horticulture) of Nippon Koei India Ltd with the Jharkhand Livelihood Promotion Society. Currently serving as the CEO of Tasar Development Foundation (TDF) since its establishment in 2013, Shamshad has been instrumental in leading nature-based solutions for climate impact and sustainable livelihood activities in Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh.<\/p>\n<p>Shamshad's professional journey began in 1996 at Professional Assistance For Development Action (PRADAN), where he has worked with over 10,000 forest dwellers in Bihar and Jharkhand. He has led a team of professionals in promoting tasar sericulture-based livelihoods for rural poor communities. He has played a key role in anchoring projects at the organization level, including UNDP-assisted projects, NABARD's Tribal Development Programme, SGSY projects, and MKSP-NTFP projects.<\/p>\n<p>Shamshad has been involved in perspective planning, proposal formulation, budgeting, strategy formulation, finance mobilization and management, implementation, monitoring, liaisoning with stakeholders, and capacity building. He has developed training modules for various categories of producers and conducted entrepreneurial and motivational training sessions.<\/p>\n<p>With a strong focus on integrated natural resource management and forest-based livelihoods, particularly tasar sericulture and decentralized forest management, Shamshad has contributed to the development of the sector. He has also undertaken socio-economic studies and value chain studies in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha.<\/p>\n<p>Shamshad holds a Bachelor's degree in Forestry from Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi. He has completed various professional certifications, including entrepreneurial motivation training and leadership and adaptive forest management. Throughout his career, he has attended multiple trainings and undertaken projects in collaboration with organizations such as UNDP, Ministry of Rural Development, and Central Silk Board.<\/p>\n<p>As a dedicated professional, Shamshad has made significant contributions to the field of sericulture-based livelihoods, promoting sustainable income generation, building community institutions, and establishing backward and forward linkages. He has led advisory engagements across Asia and Africa, playing a crucial role in shaping the carbon market in India in collaboration with key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, The World Bank, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, BMGF, ADB, and others.<\/p>\n<p>Santosh's work includes assessing the demand for carbon credits in challenging sectors, designing institutional mechanisms for India's carbon market, developing technical infrastructure aligned with the Paris Agreement's Article 6, and creating frameworks for market-based mechanisms for ecosystem-based services.<\/p>\n<p>He is also involved in the design and implementation of innovative financing mechanisms, such as a carbon finance platform for smallholder farmers in India, a blended finance risk mitigation facility for the solar sector in Africa, a 'Carbon First Fund' for nature-based solutions and result-based financing, and a first-loss guarantee fund for energy access enterprises and consumers.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his role at Intellecap, Santosh was a core member of the World Bank team implementing the Partnership of Market Readiness program, providing support for carbon pricing instruments in India.
