A report was released on August 1, 2023, at the India Rural Colloquy: A Rural Renaissance in Delhi by the Development Intelligence Unit (DIU), a collaboration between Transform Rural India and Sambodhi Research Pvt. Ltd. According to this pan-India survey titled ‘State of Healthcare in Rural India: 2023, it was seen that 73% of Northeast Indians and 60% of North Indians travel to other states for better medical facilities.

The paper provides a thorough assessment of the existing rural healthcare landscape. It also shows important insights into the obstacles and potential for improving rural healthcare delivery. The poll, which was conducted with a sample size of 6,478 respondents from 20 states, shows a varied spectrum of rural populations across India.
While services for overseas medical professionals have grown in popularity, ‘Domestic Medical Tourism’ has received little attention. This is evidenced by the fact that 63% of Indians migrate with family members. They are ones suffering from NCDs (non communicable diseases) and hence choose to migrate to states other than their own in order to receive better healthcare treatments. 73% of people in the north-east travel for NCD (non communicable disease) treatment.
This figure is 60% for those living in the northern states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. 44 percent in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh in central India, 29 percent, 28 percent, and 27 percent in the West, South, and East, respectively.

Thriving Country’s Health And Wellness Industry
Over the last decade, India has earned a reputation for providing high-quality medical services. Also it is provided at inexpensive costs to medical tourists from all over the world. The country’s health and wellness industry is thriving as a result of the government’s increasing emphasis.
Traveling in search of adequate medical treatment brings emotional and financial hardship to individuals and their families. The load on patients can be reduced by making healthcare more inclusive and equitable across the country. This can be done by taking a ‘whole system, whole society’ approach. This can be achieved by providing state-of-the art infrastructure and excellent services locally.
This research was released during the India Rural Colloquy 2023 in Delhi. It is an event that features over 100 thought leaders from development, culture, business, and other fields in over a dozen dialogues across four Indian cities. (As per Express Healthcare)
