Vijay Shankar is a highly accomplished professional with 14 years of experience in the field of Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, and Climate Change. He possesses comprehensive knowledge of the Indian renewable energy and power sector, along with expertise in business development, policy analysis, feasibility studies, contract negotiation, and project management in the clean energy and climate change domain.

From 2021 to the present, Vijay has been working as a Consultant for Renewable Energy & Livelihood at Word Resources Institute (WRI). His responsibilities include mapping various livelihood activities and studying the integration of distributed renewable energy technologies to enhance productivity. He explores financing options and business model innovation to scale up renewable energy-based livelihood enterprises in India's climate-vulnerable state.

Previously, from 2016 to 2021, Vijay worked as an Expert for Renewable Energy & Energy Access at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). In this role, he supported the state government in implementing the "State Action Plan on Climate Change" and engaged with various stakeholders to remove barriers and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies across different sectors.

Throughout his career, Vijay has made significant contributions, including decarbonizing the health sector by solarizing healthcare centers, promoting renewable energy in the MSME sector, implementing solar irrigation pumps in agriculture, adopting rooftop solar systems in educational institutions, providing clean energy access to rural areas, and developing clean energy action plans.

Vijay has also worked at SembCorp Industries Ltd. as a Manager for Carbon Projects & Green Power Transaction, where he managed a portfolio of carbon projects and facilitated renewable energy certificate trading. He has further gained experience at Deloitte Touché Tohmatsu and Dalkia Energy Pvt. Ltd., where he provided consultancy services in renewable energy, carbon projects, and clean energy advisory.

Vijay Shankar holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Environmental Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering. He has also pursued additional certifications in financial modeling, PV systems design, and has actively participated in various projects and publications related to clean energy transition and climate change mitigation.
